Salvaged // Cutest little shop in Frederick

My former coworker and friend, Amy, is pursuing her dreams.  She opened an adorable shop in the historic downtown area of Frederick, MD called SalvagedThe lovely treelined street is filled with shoppers searching for antiques, handmade jewelry, vintage clothes, and great meals.  I love furniture and decorating, shopping for vintage goodies and am always looking the next cute anything, so I find myself thinking about antiquing a little more than normal people.  In fact, when I was pregnant I skipped one of my birthing classes just to go antiquing in Frederick.  Where are my priorities?

A little bit about Salvaged.  To quote Amy's website: "Our mission is to give unique antiques and vintage furniture a second chance. We love scouring the countryside (or city streets) for special gems that deserve to be rescued, restored and reused in the perfect home. And we sprinkle in new home decor items, just to prove that you can mix new with old.  Sustainability is important at salvaged, and we strive to provide unique new home decor made from recycled or organic materials, while supporting "Made in the USA" companies."

Umm, doesn't get much better than that!

Her parents help with the furniture restoration, which is impeccable.  Salvaged is filled with seasonal decor that makes you want to redecorate your whole house every time you walk in!

Discovery Impact Day // HorseNet Rescue

This is the third year for Discovery Communcations' Impact Day.  I returned to HorseNet Rescue in Mt. Airy, MD where a number of maintenance jobs were needed: loading hay, mending and painting fences, weeding, and scooping poop.  Yep, I just said poop.  HorseNet Rescue is a volunteer run non-profit that cares for horses with a myriad of backgrounds such as abuse, neglect, and retired police service.

I was able to get some shots of the action and horses during the day and wanted to share them with you.  Way to go HorseNet Team!

Connie and John // Three weeks and counting

Just a mini photo shoot with Connie and John before their big wedding day on June 30.  And of all things it was John's birthday, too.  As far as I could gather these two are like George Burns and Gracie Allen.  John is the center, the straight man.  And Connie buzzes around in giggles and energy.  She's a great conversationalist and I know that if I get distracted by her infectious energy we'd wind up talking all night and miss the wedding.  Focus, Beth, focus.

This was our first meeting, so we worked on building our rapport and talked about their wish list for photos, scouted locations together, and hashed out the details of the day.  But I can't imagine anyone not able to find rapport with these two.  Adorable is the best word that comes to mind.

Happy birthday, John!!

Stonewall Regatta 2012

My friend, Rachel, is very involved in the Washington DC rowing community and asked if I would cover the 19th annual Stonewall Regatta on the Anacostia River.  I've never photographed rowing before, so I found this to be a great new challenge.  I spent years shooting high school sports, so I jumped at the opportunity to spend my day near the water.

Maybe it's the nature of the sport that attracts really nice people.  Maybe it's the fact that it was first thing on a Sunday morning and everyone was still sleepy.  But it was great to see a friendly competition and people working together and working hard.  Maybe I should try it one day!
