Honey Boo Boo

My colleague, Bill, Director of Design for Discovery's online commerce division, contacted me about a project he was working on. See, Bill and I go way back. We first worked together at a small branding agency in Georgetown when we were in our early twenties, which was ummm, just a couple years ago, right? And now that we are grown-ups getting to work with Bill at Discovery is even more fun and he periodically has projects up his sleeve where he enlists my help.

With the launch of their book the Thompson/Shannon family kicked off their book signing tour at our Silver Spring headquarters. Bill saw the opportunity to photograph Alana in her branded products. Bill called and asked if I would shoot it, so of course I jumped at the chance.

For some reason, this seven year old little girl and her family are quite controversial. However, my experience was a bit of a whirlwind because I only had 1/2 hour with her. She was a bit shy at first, but after some family encouragement, friendly kid teasing, and a quick chat about Candy Crush that personality we are used to seeing came out. And that was my job. My job was to get her to showcase those products being sold online. She's funny. She's sassy-molassy. And she can out duckface anyone.

Major thanks to Leah, Lina, and Rachel.
